CCDS: Public note	02/25/2009	NCBI	This CCDS represents a protein (NP_777600.2, 160 aa) that is translated from the 5'-most AUG start codon found in current spliced TMEM80 transcripts. It should be noted that a further upstream in-frame AUG codon exists, translation from which would result in a protein that is 48 aa longer at the N-terminus. The upstream AUG has a weak Kozak signal and appears to be specific to higher primate species, while the currently represented start codon has a strong Kozak signal and is better conserved. Unspliced ESTs that contain the upstream AUG exist, but due to 5' overlap with the DEAF1 gene on the opposite strand, these transcripts cannot be unambiguously assigned to the TMEM80 gene.
