The coding region has been updated to extend the N-terminus based on the presence of an upstream translation start codon that is well-conserved across vertebrate species. An alternative downstream start codon, which has been represented historically and is consistent with that used by other HOX gene family members, would reduce the protein length by 17 aa. No experimental evidence exists regarding which start codon is preferentially used. |
