melanoma-associated antigen B1 [Homo sapiens]

Protein Classification

MAGE family protein( domain architecture ID 10575428)

MAGE family protein is a tumor-rejection antigen expressed on HLA-A1 of tumor cells and recognized by cytotoxic T-lymphocytes, similar to human Melanoma-associated antigen 3 (MAGE-A3) which may enhance ubiquitin(Ub) ligase activity of RING-type zinc finger-containing E3 Ub-protein ligases and TRIM28, and stimulate p53/TP53 ubiquitination by TRIM28

MAGE homology domain; The MAGE (melanoma antigen-encoding gene) family are expressed in a wide variety of tumours but not in normal cells, with the exception of the male germ cells, placenta, and, possibly, cells of the developing embryo. The cellular function of this family is unknown. This family also contains the yeast protein, Nse3. The Nse3 protein is part of the Smc5-6 complex. Nse3 has been demonstrated to be important for meiosis.
