Background: The Zonotrichia albicollis DNA sample was obtained from Dr. Elaina M. Tuttle, Indiana State University. This monoisolate was obtained from an adult Tan morph male. Genomic DNA was prepared by Dr. Elaina M. Tuttle lab, Indiana State University ... from red blood cells (hematocrit) from one individual (Banded as MXXF; karyotyped as ZAL 2/2, ZAL 3a/3a, ZAL Z/Z). Total sequence input coverage of Illumina instrument reads was 95X (fragments, 3, and 8kbs) using a genome size estimate of 1.2Gb. The combined sequence reads were assembled using the ALLPATHS software (Broad Institute). This draft assembly was referred to as Zonotrichia albicollis 1.0.1. This version has been gap filled and cleaned of contaminating contigs. The assembly is made up of a total of 6018 scaffolds with an N50 scaffold length of over 4.9Mb (N50 contig length was 113kb). The assembly spans 1.03Gb, and has an assembled coverage of 63.3X. This work was supported by NIH grant R01 1R01GM084229 to EMT, Indiana State University For questions regarding this Zonotrichia albicollis 1.0.1 assembly please contact Dr. Wesley Warren, Washington University School of Medicine (wwarren@genome.wustl.edu). Funding for the sequence characterization of the Zonotrichia albicollis genome was provided by Dr. Elaina Tuttle. Source DNA samples can be obtained from Elaine M. Tuttle, Dept. of Life Sciences, Science 209, Indiana State University, Terra Haute, IN 47809. Credits: DNA source - Dr. Elaina M.
