Mannheimia haemolytica is a gram-negative bacterial pathogen that is mainly associated with respiratory disease in cattle, sheep, and other ruminants. Although M. haemolytica is commensal in the upper respiratory system, the pathogen can spread and establish infection in the lower respiratory tract when an animal is stressed or immunocompromised. M. haemolytica serotypes A1, A2, and A6 are the most common worldwide. Serotypes A1 and A6 are often responsible for pneumonia in bovine, while serotype A2 can cause disease in ovine. The genome sequence of a serotype A2 isolate from ovine could further our understanding of virulence factors linked to host specificity.
