BCM-HGSC is working with collaborators to provide reference genomes for important Marine Mammals species including the bottlenosed dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), killer whale (Orcinus orca), and walrus (Odobenus rosmarus). The goal of the project is to understand the contribution of the genome sequence to the biology of the organisms including but not limited to the study of the lineages of land mammals that returned to ocean living. The biology of the individual species will also be examined in relation to their genome sequences.
