The cunner (Tautogolabrus adspersus) is wrasse fish species native to the northwestern Atlantic, from the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Newfoundland to the Chesapeake Bay (from Wikipedia entry). This sample from a male collected in Halifax, Canada waters, by Tony Einfeldt from Dalhousie University. The sample was used to generate a high-quality reference for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). Sequencing and genome assembly were conducted at the Vertebrate Genomes Lab (VGL) at the Rockefeller University, lead by Olivier Fedrigo and Erich D. Jarvis, and supported by Einfeldt and colleagues.
