Genome Information for Dengue virus
The project work was designed to carryout serological and molecular survey for dengue virus infection in febrile suspected patients.
More...The project work was designed to carryout serological and molecular survey for dengue virus infection in febrile suspected patients. Currently, dengue control measures heavily relies on effective vector control. In Nigeria, dengue is underreported and often misdiagnosed as malaria. This study established the occurrence of dengue in febrile patients. The study also established dengue and malaria co-infection in the recruited patients. As at the time this study was conducted, only dengue virus serotype 1 was detected. From the findings, malaria may not be the only mosquito-borne disease-causing febrile illness across the study locations. The development implies that dengue may be endemic in these areas, but undetected or possibly misdiagnosed as malaria.
