Polysphondylium violaceum social amoebas are members of Dictyostelia. Upon starvation, the amoebas aggregate to form fruiting bodies with spores supported by stalk cells. After growth we developed amoebas on non-nutrient agar and harvested cells and multicellular structures at 0, 4, 16, 20 and 24 hours for RNA isolation and cDNA library preparation. 75-bp paired-end reads were sequenced with Illumina NextSeq 500 at the Tayside Centre for Genomic Analysis (https://tcga.org.uk) in two independent runs.
