The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of methyl jasmonate MeJA treatment on miRNA and gene expression in Scots pine needles and to compare expression levels of miRNAs and their target genes. Potential precursor sequences and target genes of the identified miRNAs were determined, to understand the type of processes regulated by both conserved and novel miRNAs under stress conditions. In this study, a combined strategy-high throughput sequencing and computational prediction was utilized to investigate the effect of MeJA on Scots pine miRNAs and the transcriptome.
