ElectricMicrobe100

The ElectricMicrobe100 project contains genomic and other systems biology level data about microorganisms from microbial electrochemical systems. The last 20 years have seen incredible improvements in MFC design, leading to much better understanding of application space for MFC and insight into the fundamental mechanisms of extracellular electron transport. A common practice is to sequence the 16S rRNA genes found in enrichments of electrogenic or electrotrophic microbial communities to shed light on the microbial diversity. However, a vast amount of information is lost by leaving the genomes unsequenced. With the constant improvement in genomic sequencing, assembly, and annotation, it is within reach to sequence 100 new genomes from microbial electrochemical systems in the next two years. More...
