More...The African catfish, Clarias gariepinus, an important cultured freshwater species in many countries, especially in Indonesia. However, bacterial infection and nitrite stress become the major culture problem in this species that can cause mass mortality. The development of disease and stress resistant strain of this fish could be implemented using the potential gene-marker related to disease and stress resistant. However, little genomic and transcriptomic information for this character of the fish is available up to now. To address the shortfall and to better understand C. gariepinus immune response to pathogen infection and nitrite stress at molecular level, C. gariepinus were challenged with potent A. hydrophila and nitrite stres, and the high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) technology were employed to produce transcriptomes from the liver to screen the potential gene marker for resistant-strain selection.
