Aromatoleum aromaticum EbN1

A soil-borne bacteria capable of metabolizing aromatic hydrocarbons.

See Genome Information for Aromatoleum aromaticum
Aromatoleum aromaticum EbN1. First isolated from sediment contaminated with ethylbenzene, this organism is capable of growing on crude oil, using polar aromatic compounds such as benzoate under both oxic and anoxic conditions. It is currently being evaluated for use in aromatic hydrocarbon bioremediation projects.
