Description

Macroalgea were then put in sterile seawater and remaining bacteria were removed by ultrasonication (2x 60s, 50-60 kHz). Suspensions with removed bacteria of each sample were subsequently pooled with the previously obtained washing suspensions. Per sample, nearly 60 L of washing suspension was then filtered through 0.2 µm pore size polycarbonate membrane filters (Millipore). DNA was extracted from these filters, frozen at -80°C.
