Description: The Boesmans rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani) is currently an endangered species of fish found in lakes and tributaries, in a moutanous region of the West Papua, Indonesia. They can adjust their colors, and are kept in aquarium. This sample was collected by Byrappa Venkatesh, supported by Gene Myers, in collaboration with Richard Durbin, and used to generate a high-quality reference genome as part of the G10K-VGP and Fish VGP projects.
