The Four-eyed fish (Anableps anableps) live in fresh water and found in Southern Mexico to Honduras. Their eyes are raised to the top of their head, and divided into two parts: to see above and below the water surface. Right-sided males only mate with left-sided females, and vice versa. This sample was collected by Andreas Kaut, procured by Axel Meyer, sequencing supported by Gene Myers, in collaboration with Richard Durbin, to generate a high-quality reference genome as part of the G10K-VGP and Fish VGP projects.
