The Red-crested Turaco (Tauraco erythrolophus) is endemic to western Angola to Congo, Africa, and is the National bird of Angola. It has deep barking call that has been described to sound like a jungle monkey. It is named after its very colorful red crested feathers on its head. This sample was collected by Mads Bertelsen from a female that lived at the Copenhagen Zoo in Denmark and was used to generate a chromosome level reference assembly as part of the G10K-VGP and B10K Projects.
