The smalleye Pacific opah (Lampris incognitus) is a fish species endemic to central and northeast Pacific, and is one of five subspecies of Lampris guttatus. This sample from the Pacific Ocean, along the coast of San Diego, was collected by Nick Wegner of NOAA fisheries in San Diego CA, and coordinated by Lisa Komoroske and Byrappa Venkatesh to be used to generate a high-quality reference genome for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). Sequencing and genome assembly were conducted at the Vertebrate Genomes Lab (VGL) at the Rockefeller University, led by Olivier Fedrigo and Erich D. Jarvis, with funding support from Jarvis.
