Description

Nitrosopumilus piranensis D3C was isolated from coastal surface water of the northern Adriatic Sea (approx. 0.5 m depth) off the coast of Piran, Slovenia, in December 2011. They can oxidize ammonia into nitrite and fix inorganic carbon via the 3-hydroxypropionate/4-hydroxybutyrate cycle and are also able to utilize urea as an alternative substrate. Genome size is 1.71-Mb.
