Schematic of the Y chromosome indicating the approximate position of the previously defined regions AZFa, AZFb, and AZFc and the position of recurrent deletions currently defined on the basis of the flanking palindromic repeats (see Establishing the Diagnosis). The short arm (Yp), the centromere, the long arm (Yq) (including the polymorphic heterochromatic band Yq12 of variable length), and the pseudoautosomal regions 1 and 2 are labeled.
