Is it possible to ID mtDNA haplogoups using dbSNP?
dbSNP cannot ID mtDNA haplogoups, but there is a group in Korea (Yonsei University) that released a website called mtDNAmanager which includes the ability to haplogroup samples. They use a simple method of comparing the submitted sequence to a list of haplogroup motifs, so reversion at particular sites are somewhat ignored. However, all of the haplogroup motifs are searchable and compiled in a .pdf file on the website.(02/04/08)
