Figure 1Massive repopulation of the liver by preparative irradiation

DPPIV-deficient F344 rats received preparative hepatic irradiation (50 Gy) and 66% hepatectomy, followed by transplantation of 2 × 106 hepatocytes from congeneic DPPIV-positive F344 rats. Liver biopsies performed 1, 3 and 12 weeks after the transplantation show progressive and massive replacement of the host hepatocytes with the transplanted cells, the plasma membranes of which are positively stained for DPPIV activity.
