GraF was discovered as a small stress protein expressed at higher levels in glycopeptide (vancomycin, teicoplanin)-intermediate strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Overexperssion leads to a thicker cell wall, and reduced sensitivities to glycopeptides and oxacillin.
