Summary
This region represents a conserved enhancer element located approximately 55 kb upstream of the SRY-box 10 (Sox10) gene. It drives expression of a transgene in nerve ganglia. This is one of multiple regulatory elements present in a larger deletion that results in severe hypopigmentation and enteric aganglionosis, and it is thought to contribute to the enteric and pigmentary phenotype of the Sox10Hry mouse model of Waardenburg-Shah Syndrome (WS4).
