Summary
This region contains a highly variable minisatellite region located within an intron of the transmembrane channel like 6 (TMC6) gene on the q arm of chromosome 17. The minisatellite is an unstable GC-rich variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) with repeat units of 21 nucleotides with strand asymmetry in nucleotide composition. Instability at this locus is observed in germline cells, with a paternal bias in the mutation rate. This region contains a meiotic recombination hotspot. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2017]
