Acts upstream of or within several processes, including negative regulation of neuron maturation; regulation of gene expression; and somite rostral/caudal axis specification. Located in chromatin and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including 4-cell stage embryo; embryo ectoderm; embryo mesenchyme; genitourinary system; and primitive streak. Used to study spondylocostal dysostosis. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in spondylocostal dysostosis 5. Orthologous to human TBX6 (T-box transcription factor 6).
