Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ferlin family of proteins, which have been implicated in fusion events in muscle tissue. Members of this family have a carboxy-terminal single pass transmembrane domain and multiple C2 domains, which bind negatively charged phospholipids in the presence of calcium ions. This gene is expressed at high levels in myoblasts and upregulated in damaged skeletal muscle. Mice deficient in this protein display defects in myoblast fusion, muscle regeneration, and angiogenesis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

Suppressed Reference Sequence(s)

The following Reference Sequences have been suppressed. Explain

  1. NM_177035.2: Suppressed sequence

    Description
NM_177035.2: This RefSeq was suppressed temporarily based on the calculation that the annotated protein was shorter than a protein or proteins from a putative ortholog.
