tau - tau
Enables microtubule binding activity. Involved in microtubule cytoskeleton organization; open tracheal system development; and rhabdomere morphogenesis. Located in axon and dendrite. Colocalizes with cytoplasmic microtubule. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; chordotonal organ; head; imaginal disc; and synaptic neuropil domain. Used to study Pick's disease; amnestic disorder; frontotemporal dementia; neurodegenerative disease; and tauopathy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in dementia (multiple); neurodegenerative disease (multiple); progressive supranuclear palsy; and temporal lobe epilepsy. Orthologous to human MAPT (microtubule associated protein tau). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Oct 2024]
