Summary
Enables tRNA (guanine-N1-)-methyltransferase activity. Involved in mitochondrial tRNA methylation and tRNA N1-guanine methylation. Located in mitochondrial matrix. Used to study several diseases, including cytochrome-c oxidase deficiency disease; hypercalcemia; lactic acidosis; mitochondrial complex III deficiency; and mitochondrial myopathy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 26. Orthologous to human TRMT5 (tRNA methyltransferase 5). General protein information

Preferred Names
tRNA (guanine) methyltransferase
NP_011937.1
  • tRNA(m(1)G37)methyltransferase; methylates a tRNA base adjacent to the anticodon that has a role in prevention of frameshifting; localized to both cytoplasm and mitochondria, and modifies both cytoplasmic and mitochondrial tRNAs; mutations in human ortholog TRMT5 are associated with skeletal muscle respiratory chain deficiencies, and trm5 mutations analogous to disease mutations decrease respiration
