    What's a GeneRIF?
    1. Genetic as well as genome-wide analyses implied a possibility that, even without H2A.Z, meiotic crossovers (COs) in Schizosaccharomyces pombe are maintained by weak and non-hotspot double-strand breaks, which are processed preferentially as CO. These observations provide clues to further understanding on CO control.

    2. Xap5 is a chromatin-associated protein acting in a similar manner as the histone variant H2A.Z to suppress expression of antisense and repeat element transcripts throughout the fission yeast genome.
