    Summary
Enables several functions, including ATP hydrolysis activity; polyubiquitin modification-dependent protein binding activity; and ubiquitin binding activity. Involved in several processes, including SCF complex disassembly in response to cadmium stress; macroautophagy; and proteolysis involved in protein catabolic process. Acts upstream of or within endosome to plasma membrane protein transport. Located in cytosol; endoplasmic reticulum membrane; and nucleus. Part of several cellular components, including Cdc48p-Npl4p-Vms1p AAA ATPase complex; RQC complex; and endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Used to study Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2Y; frontotemporal dementia and/or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 6; and inclusion body myopathy with Paget disease of bone and frontotemporal dementia. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2Y; Paget's disease of bone; frontotemporal dementia and/or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 6; inclusion body myopathy with Paget disease of bone and frontotemporal dementia (multiple); and inclusion body myositis. Orthologous to human VCP (valosin containing protein). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Nov 2024]
