    This study demonstrated two obligatory roles of STIM1 for muscarinic activation of TRPC1-TRPC4 channels in PC12 cells. One is to facilitate heteromeric channel formation of TRPC1 with TRPC4. The second is to facilitate the insertion of TRPC1-TRPC4 channels into the cell membrane in response to muscarinic receptor stimulation.
