Growth protocol wt (FB1) was grown to a OD600 of 0.5 at 28°C in CM medium (Holliday, 1974) containing 1 % (w/v) glucose in the presence of 10 mM FeSO4.

Extraction protocol Total RNA was extracted using the TRIZOL-reagent (Invitrogen) according to the manufacturer´s instructions. RNA samples were further column purified (Qiagen RNeasy) and the quality checked using a Bioanalyser with a RNA6000 Nano LabChip Kit (Agilent).

Label protocol Target preparation was performed according to the standard Affymetrix protocol using the Enzo BioArray RNA transcript labeling kit, except a reaction temperature of 50°C for first strand cDNA synthesis.
