S. lugdunensis strains were grown in trypticase soy broth (TSB) at 37°C under shaking (150 rpm), and cells were collected at 6 and 8 h of growth.

Extraction protocol |
Total RNA was extracted using the RNeasy Mini kit (Qiagen) following the manufacturer’s procedure. Two DNase treatments were successively performed using DNase I (Sigma-Aldrich) and Turbo DNA free (Thermo Fisher Scientific). Quality of RNA was evaluated using the RNA 6000 Nano with a Bioanalyzer (Agilent, Les Ulis, France).

Data processing |
The scanned images were analyzed with Feature Extraction Software 10.7.3.1 (Agilent) using default parameters and data were extracted after Linear-Lowess normalisation. Genes with significant different expression (P0.05) were selected based on at least a 2 fold change in expression level.
