Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) results from ATHEROSCLEROSIS of large and medium peripheral arteries, as well as the AORTA and often coexists with CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE and cerebrovascular disease. In addition to risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and HYPERLIPIDEMIA, a genetic factor mapping to chromosome 1p31 has been identified. OMIM: 606787
