signaling recognition particle receptor family protein

signaling recognition particle (SRP) receptor family protein such as the bacterial signal recognition particle-docking protein FtsY, which is a GTPase involved in targeting and insertion of nascent membrane proteins into the cytoplasmic membrane, and which acts as a receptor for the complex formed by the SRP and the ribosome-nascent chain (RNC)

signal recognition particle-docking protein FtsY

FtsY, a GTPase, serves as a membrane receptor for the signal recognition particle. It belongs to a system that lets proteins with an N-terminal signal peptide to resume translation and insert into the membrane. In E.coli, ftsY is located near the similarly named genes ftsE and ftsX, but their products are involved instead in cell division.
