Glycine reductase complex selenoprotein A
Found in clostridia, this protein contains one active site selenocysteine and catalyses the reductive deamination of glycine, which is coupled to the esterification of orthophosphate resulting in the formation of ATP [1]. A member of this family may also exist in Treponema denticola [2]. [1]. 2963330. glycine/sarcosine/betaine reductase complex selenoprotein A
Selenoprotein A (GrdA) is the A subunit of a complex whose specificity is determined by a different subunit, B, in a glycine or sarcosine or betaine reductase complex. In some species, only one type of B subunit (also a selenoprotein) occurs. Protein C is usually a heterodimer of two subunits called beta (GrdC) and alpha (GrdD), and is not a selenoprotein.
