signal recognition particle-docking protein FtsY is a GTPase involved in targeting and insertion of nascent membrane proteins into the cytoplasmic membrane; acts as a receptor for the complex formed by the signal recognition particle (SRP) and the ribosome-nascent chain (RNC)
FtsY, a GTPase, serves as a membrane receptor for the signal recognition particle. It belongs to a system that lets proteins with an N-terminal signal peptide to resume translation and insert into the membrane. In E.coli, ftsY is located near the similarly named genes ftsE and ftsX, but their products are involved instead in cell division.
