serine hydrolase
This model finds serine hydrolases of many sorts, including class C beta-lactamases. Despite the name given by Pfam as a short-hand for this HMM, members proteins should be assumed to be something other than a beta-lactamase if RefSeq or PGAP uses this HMM for naming. True beta-lactamases are named by more specific HMMs.
FOX family cephalosporin-hydrolyzing class C beta-lactamase
beta-lactamase
beta-lactamase, belonging to the class C family, catalyzes the hydrolysis of beta-lactams such as cephalosporins
class C beta-lactamase
Members of this family are beta-lactamases of Ambler class C. Essentially all are active against cephalosporin class beta-lactams. Many of these enzymes have been picked up by mobile elements such as plasmids and transposons, are highly expressed, and confer antibiotic resistance that has great clinical significance. Others are chromosomal enzymes that may lack clinical significance until mutational processes change expression levels, or broaden substrate specificities, or both. The alignment does include the first 30 or so amino acids, which includes the signal peptide region and is poorly conserved.
