Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a highly prevalent infection in the United States. One complication of HSV is HSV keratitis, an ocular HSV infection thought to be the leading cause of corneal blindness in the United States. Home care clinicians with knowledge of the signs and symptoms of HSV and HSV keratitis can aid in early detection and treatment of this potentially serious infection.
