SRX2575167: bluehead wrasse IP vs TP
1 ILLUMINA (Illumina HiSeq 2500) run: 8.8M spots, 2.2G bases, 691.4Mb downloads

Design: To identify genes associated with alternative sexual phenotypes (sexual dimorphism and male dimorphism) and social status in bluehead wrasses, whole-transcriptome gene expression profiles were examined for the brain (forebrain and midbrain) and gonads of initial phase (IP) females and males, as compared to terminal phase males. Total RNA from 10 forebrain/midbrain and 10 gonadal samples (from 5 IP females and 5 IP males), were sent to the Otago Genomics and Bioinformatics Facility at the University of Otago under contract to New Zealand Genomics Limited for library construction and RNA sequencing. 20 multiplexed libraries were prepared with the Illumina TruSeq Stranded mRNA Sample Prep Kit and 125-bp paired-end reads were generated using about 1 flow cell lane on the HiSeq 2500 platform.

Study: Bluehead wrasse RNA-Seq data for alternative mating tactics
show Abstracthide Abstract
This study characterizes the transcriptome-wide gene expression differences in the brain and gonads of initial phase (IP) males, females and terminal phase (TP) males in order to identify genes responsible for maintaining flexible sexual phenotypes and alternative mating tactics in a diandric protogynous hermaphrodite--the bluehead wrasse.
Sample: initial phase male
