The aim of this study was to elucidate how and why AI-1 quorum quenching can inhibit biofouling in A/O MBRs. 16s Ribosomal-tag the pyrosequencing technique was used to analyze microbial communities in order to identify which species play key roles in the biofilm and activated sludge in MBRs.
