SRX901289: Zea mays L. subsp. mays CML5 (Ames 27071; Schnable Lab Ac5868) shoot apex RNA-Seq
1 ILLUMINA (Illumina HiSeq 2000) run: 44.9M spots, 9.1G bases, 5.8Gb downloads

Design: "14-day-old shoot apices were collected individually and ground in liquid nitrogen. All RNA extractions were conducted using the Qiagen RNeasy kit cat# 74904 (50), according to Qiagen's protocol. Total RNA was eluted twice with 30 ul RNase-free water. The indexed RNA-Seq libraries were prepared using the Illumina protocol outlined in ""TruSeq RNA Sample Preparation Guide v2"" (Part# 15026495 Rev. D September 2012). The indexed libraries from six inbred/line were combined and seeded onto one lane of the flowcell on Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencer. The libraries were sequenced using 110 cycles of chemistry and imaging, resulting in paired-end (PE) sequencing reads with length of 2 x 101 bp"

The shoot apical meristem (SAM) is responsible for development of all above ground organs in the plant. SAM structure and function correlates with agronomically-important adult traits in the maize plant, and is also affected by planting density and shade stresses induced by agricultural environments. Our ultimate goals are to understand the regulatory networks controlling SAM structure and function, and the responses of these networks to environmental stresses
