The blue salmon catfish (Neoarius graeffei) is a species of catfish found in freshwater rivers of Australia and Papua New Guinea. This species is most identifiable by its large, shark-like dorsal fin that is led by a poisonous spine. (from Wikipedia entry). This sample was procured by Aaron Davis and used to generate a high-quality reference genome for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). The project was coordinated by Ricardo Betancur of the University of Oklahoma.
