The blue salmon catfish (Neoarius graeffei) is a species of catfish found in freshwater rivers of Australia and Papua New Guinea. This species is most identifiable by its large, shark-like dorsal fin that is led by a poisonous spine. (from Wikipedia entry). This sample was procured by Aaron Davis and used to generate a high-quality reference genome for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). The project was coordinated by Ricardo Betancur of the University of Oklahoma. Sequencing and genome assembly were conducted at the Vertebrate Genomes Lab (VGL) at the Rockefeller University, led by Olivier Fedrigo and Erich D. Jarvis.
