The red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) is a tropical bird native to Southeast Asia and parts of South Asia, and a domesticated subspecies (the chicken) is one of the most widespread domestic animals. This genome was supported by Antton Alberdi Estibaritz, Tom Gilbert, Sofia Marcos, and Antone Estonba. Sequencing and assembly were conducted at the Vertebrate Genomes Lab (VGL) at The Rockefeller University, led by Olivier Fedrigo and Erich D. Jarvis, as part of the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP).
