More...The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) is a long-living freshwater turtle in the family Emydidae, and is endemic to the Western Palearctic, namely southern and central Europe, West Asia and North Africa (from Wikipedia entry). This genome is from a female at a Nature Reserve in Italy, collected by Claudio Ciofi, to generate a high-quality reference for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). Sequencing and genome assembly were conducted at the University of Florence in Italy lead by Ciofi and the Vertebrate Genomes Lab (VGL) at the Rockefeller University, lead by Olivier Fedrigo and Erich D. Jarvis, with support from Ciofi and Jarvis. Data use: The Emys_orbicularis-1.0 assembly sequence is made freely available to the community by the Vertebrate Genome Project and the University of Florence with the following understanding: Authors of the assembled genome retain the right to first publication of a genome-wide analysis of the data generated, including the use of genome-wide data for phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis. Please refer to the Genome10K data use policies (https://genome10k.soe.ucsc.edu/data-use-policies) for further details. Emys orbicularis Sequence and Assembly credits: Sample provider - Department of Biology, University of Florence, Italy. DNA source - Vertebrate Genome Laboratory, The Rockefeller University, USA. Sequencing Funds - Department of Biology, University of Florence, Italy, Vertebrate Genome Laboratory, The Rockefeller University, USA. Sequence Assembly: Department of Biology, University of Florence, Italy. Curation - Sanger Wellcome Institute, UK.
