The Trypanosoma cruzi strain CL Brenner has been sequenced, assembled and annotated. The T. cruzi consortium consists of the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI), Uppsala University, Karolinska Institute and The Insitute for Genomic Research (TIGR).
To sequence the genome of T. cruzi strain CL Brener, SBRI used a whole genome shotgun approach; TIGR and end-sequencing of bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clones and a chomosome by chromosome approach. Approximatelly 60.4 Mb out of a ~108 Mb T. cruzi diploid genome has been annotated.
Additionally, Uppsala University and Karolinska Institute generated close to 5000 Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) from a normalized T. cruzi epimastigote cDNA library. The ESTs corresponded to 3,054 transcripts and likely represent over 25% of the total gene content present in T. cruzi. About 30% of the transcripts have similarity to sequences in the public databases.
The whole genome shotgun sequence data of T. cruzi strain CL Brener has been submitted to GenBank by TIGR. Less...
