Catalytic domain of the Serine/Threonine kinase, SH3 Binding Kinase 1 STKs catalyze the transfer of the gamma-phosphoryl group from ATP to serine/threonine residues on protein substrates. SBK1, also called BSK146, is predominantly expressed in the brain. Its expression is increased in the developing brain during the late embryonic stage, coinciding with dramatic neuronal proliferation, migration, and maturation. SBK1 may play an important role in regulating brain development. The SBK1 subfamily is part of a larger superfamily that includes the catalytic domains of other protein STKs, protein tyrosine kinases, RIO kinases, aminoglycoside phosphotransferase, choline kinase, and phosphoinositide 3-kinase.
