Title Rehabilitative Impact of Exercise Training on Human Skeletal Muscle Transcriptional Programs in Parkinson’s Disease

Summary We performed transcriptional profiling to test the hypotheses that a) type I myofiber grouping severity in Parkinson's disease skeletal muscle is linked to distinct gene expression networks and b) high-intensity resistance exercise rehabilitation training influences the skeletal muscle transcriptome in individuals with Parkinson's disease.
 
Overall design Bulk poly-A RNAseq was performed on skeletal muscle from 12 individuals with Parkinson's Disease, 12 age and sex-matched old adults, and 12 sex-matched young adults. Five of the 12 subjects with Parkinson's disease were also profiled following 16-wk of resistance training.
